Second edition on its way to subscribers

This year’s second edition of Eiðfaxi magazine is on its way to subscribers, pitch full of educational and entertaining material. The magazine includes an entertaining interview with the breeder, farmer and horse trainer, Vignis Siggeirsson at Hemla along with an interesting interview with the horse breeders Gunnar and Kristbjörg at Auðsholtshjáleiga, on the pairing of breeding horses. Also, there is an interesting interview with Sigrún Ólafsdóttir president of FT (Horse Trainers Association) discussions and interview concerning LM 2012 in Reykjavík, an interview with a very promising young horse woman and also educational articles on shoeing, health of horses, educational matters, bridals and then there is an article written by Guðmundur Björgvinsson which is the second article in line discussing training of the gæðingur.

What is the first thing that needs to be examined when a mare and stallion are paired together?

The first thing one does is to form an opinion on what could be improved. It should be a goal of each breeder to improve what they already have. We should not forget that breeding consists in making progress. Obviously one examines the horses´ bloodline thoroughly in order to take into account both qualities and flaws. In order to evaluate both the qualities and flaws of the horses that are to be paired together we examine all available information. Such as: Breeding assessment, judgment, background information, offspring, information from trainer and so forth.

How about pairing together a four gaited mare with a five gaited stallion and vice versa?

Pairing together four gaited horses with five gaited horses has proved very successfu for us, and from this mixture often arrive horses with the greatest performance. Although it is still important to maintain surpassing four gaited and five gaited horses.
