Agreement for research to be done on the horse flue

Proposition for a research program was agreed upon this morning at a government meeting. The University’s Institute for experimental pathology at Keldur and the Food Industry proposed a research plan because of the contagious cough in horses. The total expense for this research is about 19 million Ikr.

The research plan is among other things to do analysis on the cause of the disease, map out the distribution area of the contagion and do research on the area of outbreak as well as the nature of the disease. 

Jóhann Guðmundsson, assistant in the Ministry of Fishing and Farming says that the Landsmót Ltd will begin discussions with the Faming Fund of Productivity and Institute of Regional Development in order to find a solution to and to help the association through the most difficult hurdles. Whether this will be in the form of loans or other kinds of financial support, is yet to be resolved.
