Horse on a frozen trench

Surprised people on skates…

Both people skating on the frozen trench as well as the residents of house boats in Amsterdam were surprised this weekend when the Dutch horse woman Cunera Rauwerda rode Hraði frá Úlfsstöðum at a beautiful tölt on the icy trench. People stopped and watched wondering about this, as it is not every day that people ride on ice in this country. „Hraði bears a name which is very suitable for this wonderful horse, he does think forward,“ Cunera said happily, at an interview with Eiðfaxi. „The horse came to us last week and this is only the third time that I ride him.  He did not mind the people skating or other unusual things around him.  Of course I was careful, and naturally Hraði is adapting to his new surroundings.“  It has been cold in Holland lately just like it has been in the mainland Europe for the past weeks and most lakes and trenches are frozen over there.

Hraði frá Úlfsstöðum is a four gaited horse who has received a score of 8.23 for talent in breeding assessment and 9.0 for tölt and 9.5 for spirit and temperament. He is out of Keilir frá Miðsitju and the daughter of Orri, Hnáta frá Úlfsstöðum. „First and foremost, Hraði will be used as a competition horse and it will be challenging to receive high scores here like he did in the competitions in Iceland. Tölt is his best gait, it is just magnificent. And surely I have received my share of Icelandic powers here to Holland,“ she said after the ride with a smile.

Cunera Rauwerda and Marije, her sister have during the past semesters, been working on the establishment of their horse breeding farm Skot in Amsterdam where they keep only Icelandic horses. The two sisters and their colleagues are extremely enthusiastic and they are very optimistic about the future of their business.
