Hello cold world
This beautiful skewbald mare foal was born into a rather cold world up north in Hjaltadalur, last weekend. There have been news about many horse farmers who have brought their mares and newborn foals inside, as conditions for the young ones are extremely bad and in some places there was more snow on the ground than on this photo. Vets recommend that when it comes to mares who have recently given birth, great care has to be taken because the mares can become very tense which inevitable increases the risk of accidents. Water is essential. The good news is that the weather outlook up north is a little better than it has been for the past few days, although there is a chance of frost during the night.
Catching a mare which recently has given birth can be a tough task, but this time everything went well and the little mare, which was named Ósk, will spend the night inside. And even though she already started receiving milk from her mother, Ósk was glad to get into the shelter. The mother of young Ósk is Gjöf frá Sauðárkróki and the father is Sveipur frá Hólum, a young offspring of Krákur frá Blesastöðum 1A and Ösp frá Hólum.
